Environmental management is incorporated into new project designs and the day-today routine of its operating units. Several plans and programs are under way, such as: Aquatic Ecosystems and Water Quality Monitoring, Fish Fauna Monitoring, Environmental Education, Solid Waste Management, Effluent Monitoring, Emergency Response, control of erosive processes, reforestation, etc.

These environmental diagnostic and monitoring studies generate important data and knowledge about previously unexplored regions. In 2017, FURNAS published the Mammals, Amphibians and Reptiles Guides of HEU Batalha and summaries of its scientific work were subsequently presented at the XIII Brazilian Ecology Congress: Fauna of TL 345 kV Tijuco Preto - Itapeti - Nordeste and Avifauna of HEU Batalha.

Certain preventive measures are implemented while building transmission lines, such as: defining routes, avoiding interference in protected areas and more significant portions of native forest; we use higher towers and special cable laying techniques that reduce deforestation in areas with a high degree of biodiversity.

All environmental activities are guided by a Policy that includes guidelines to continuously improve environmental performance. Find out more about the FURNAS and Eletrobras Environmental Policies and the FURNAS Waste Management Policy.
